Abstract

Fifty-seven private schools in Quito (n = 7,992) participated in the present research; a questionnaire on bullying was administered in order to obtain general information, to get a global index of bullying and intensity, and to measure specific subscales of behavior. The results show very high percentages of victims (52%), viewers (80%) and bullies (61%). Bullying rate is 39%, with a high or very high intensity reported in 27% of cases. There is a greater vulnerability in the lower age, and there are some differences in gender. Blocking behavior and social exclusion is very common in schools, which would require urgent action; other behaviors present an intermediate frequency and would also need intervention.
