Abstract

The aim of this study was to contribute to the knowledge about psychological and subjective well-being state of college students. Four hundred and two Costa Rican students (248 F) answered the Psychological Well-being, Positive and Negative Affect Scales and Satisfaction with Life Scales. Results show high levels of psychological well-being, particularly when referring to personal growth and purpose in life; lower levels were found in autonomy and environmental mastery. Positive affect prevails over negative affect and “high satisfaction” or “satisfaction” with life is reported. Self-acceptance, environmental mastery, purpose in life and age would explain satisfaction with life. Relevance of these findings is discussed in the context of youth’s current needs.
