Abstract

Obesity is a public health problem that has increased in recent years in children and adolescents, there are genetic, environmental and behavioral factors involved in its development, therefore, it is also important to determine which psychological factors are related.
The overall aim of this study was to identify the relationships between the triad of stress (stress-coping emotions) and BMI, 89 teens participated. Instruments that assessed the level of stress, the type of coping and emotions were applied. It was found that the most common stress situations were school events, also show the highest level of stress and strategies employed are more focused on emotion. Further a relationship between BMI and the level of stress and emotions such as guilt and anxiety was identified.
