Abstract

The present research article provides and reviews three theoretical and integrative models of well-being that promotes the individual and collective optimal functioning according to the scientific literature: emotional well-being (hedonic), psychological well-being (eudaimonic) and social well-being. From the salutogenic approach of Positive Psychology and the traditional and current definitions of well-being, each of the proposed models is analyzed and documented as a valid and reliable approach to what mental health is today. Likewise, it delves into some demographic variables, constructs and specific factors that are part of each of these models. Finally, this paper presents some of the future directions that must occupy not only Positive Psychology, but Psychology in general and societies that aspire to promote mental health from a comprehensive understanding of well-being.
